Holy Trinity’s hall was filled with music, laughter and plenty of movement Sunday as parish families turned out in force for the Family Dance.
It was a fun evening—but gatherings like this also serve an important purpose. Parish life is centred on the celebration of Mass, but it does not end when Mass is over. A healthy parish is also a community where people know one another, families form friendships and newcomers begin to feel that they belong.
That sense of connection can be difficult to build during the few minutes before and after Sunday Mass. Events like the Family Dance give children, parents and parishioners of every generation an opportunity to spend time together simply enjoying one another’s company.
Pope Leo XIV recently encouraged Catholics to build “authentic friendship, lived face to face.” He also reminded young people that the joy Christians experience when they gather can itself become a form of evangelization: “More than words, it is this joy that evangelizes, and it cannot be hidden.” Vatican Press Office
Sunday’s dance offered a wonderful glimpse of that joy and of a parish community full of life.
