Holy Trinity parishioners are invited to experience the first three classes of the Encounter School of Ministry with no obligation to enrol.
The “Come and See” classes will be held September 14, 21 and 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Holy Trinity. Each evening includes praise and worship, teaching, small group discussion and opportunities to put what is being taught into practice.
Prayer ministry will also be offered to all participants at the end of each evening.
Come to one class or experience all three. There is no commitment to continue.
Holy Trinity is home to the Edmonton campus of the Encounter School of Ministry, one of only 51 Encounter campuses worldwide.
That makes this an extraordinary opportunity for our parish and the wider Catholic community. Formation that is available in relatively few places around the world is offered here in Spruce Grove every Monday evening.
Encounter is a two-year Catholic formation program that seeks to teach, equip and activate disciples to demonstrate the love of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Its curriculum is rooted in Scripture, Catholic tradition and Church teaching. Students receive formation in their identity in Christ, hearing God’s voice, the prophetic gifts of the Holy Spirit, physical healing, inner healing and evangelization.
Students do more than learn about these subjects. Each class includes time to pray, ask questions, practise what has been taught and grow alongside others in a supportive Catholic environment.
William and Carla Smiley serve as co-directors of the Edmonton campus, with Father Paul Moret as pastoral advisor.
The purpose of the school reflects something Pope Leo XIV recently identified as central to Catholic formation.
“May catechesis guide children, young people and adults towards a living encounter with Christ,” Pope Leo said on September 3, “so that the faith may be known, lived and passed on from generation to generation.”
Encounter seeks to help Catholics deepen that relationship with Christ and become more confident in sharing His love in their families, workplaces and communities.
Interest in Encounter was evident during the Summer Intensive held at Holy Trinity from July 27 to 30.
More than 100 people attended the opening evening. Across four nights, participants explored identity and transformation, hearing God’s voice and the prophetic gifts of the Holy Spirit, physical healing, and inner healing and freedom.
The evenings included teaching, praise and worship, prayer, discussion and opportunities for participants to pray for one another. Organizers reported powerful moments of healing, encouragement and personal connection throughout the intensive.
Now parishioners have another opportunity to experience Encounter for themselves.
If you have wondered what Encounter is, how the Holy Spirit may be working in your life, or whether God may be calling you to something more, come and see.
