The end of a marriage can affect nearly every part of life. Along with grief and loneliness, separation and divorce can bring emotional, spiritual and financial questions that are difficult to face alone.
Beginning Tuesday, September 15, Holy Trinity will offer a place where people can begin working through those experiences in a supportive, faith-centred community.
Surviving Divorce: Hope and Healing for the Catholic Family is a 12-week program for adults who are divorced, or who are separated and have filed for divorce. Although presented from a Catholic perspective, the program is also open to non-Catholics.
The weekly sessions combine video presentations, personal testimonies and small-group conversations led by facilitators Sharon and Eric Frederick. Participants will hear from Catholic psychologists, priests, speakers and men and women who have experienced the breakdown of a marriage themselves.
The program does not pretend that healing happens quickly or that everyone’s experience is the same. Instead, it helps participants work through the emotions of loss and move gradually toward acceptance, healing and forgiveness. Sessions address the spiritual, emotional and financial realities of divorce. They will also help participants develop a deeper understanding of God’s continuing love for them.
Most importantly, the program offers something that can be difficult to find during separation and divorce: a community of people who understand. The first session takes place Tuesday, September 15 at 7:15 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Room at Holy Trinity. The cost is $28 and includes the participant workbook. Space is limited, and registration and payment are required to guarantee a place.
For anyone carrying the pain of separation or divorce, this may be the first step toward discovering that healing is possible. It will also show you that you do not have to make the journey alone.
